HCS Mechanical Services sparked into life over 90 years ago when master plumber, Harry Clarke, and his wife Emily, decided to leave Sheffield after the Great War and make a fresh start near Skipton.
Harry could never have imagined that the small business he began in 1920 would today be one of the Yorkshire’s most renowned independent heating and plumbing companies.
With a 60-plus workforce and a diverse base of operations, we have gone from strength to strength, while still retaining Harry’s deep-rooted family values.
Earning a solid reputation for quality work and great service, early clients included farmers, factory owners and the wealthy industrialist Sir William Milner, whose private bathroom - complete with a mounted sink that had to be placed half way up the wall to accommodate the seven foot tall Sir William - remains a working example of our firm’s skills.
Harry’s sons, Alan and Peter, later joined the business – with Peter’s own sons, John and Richard, coming on board in 1964 and 1980. Richard took sole charge of the firm in the late 1980’s and slowly grew the firm over the years, culminating in a buyout of a rival firm, G. Fawcett Ltd, in 2004. This was followed by our relocation to purpose built offices in Northallerton in 2006.
Now operating out of Northallerton and Linton, the company continues to thrive. We work in wide-ranging markets, and specialise in reactive maintenance framework contracts with local authorities and renewable energy – including installing biomass boilers and anaerobic digestion units. Providing 24hr breakdown cover, HCS Mechanical Services offersfull plumbing and heating installation and maintenance service for commercial, industrial and domestic boilers.
In 2006, we diversified and created Clarke’s Environmental Ltd,which enjoys a successful standing in the Asbestos Removal market.
